The Sony MSX is a much nicer computer than the Toshiba. You need to try Kings Valley 2 on MSX 2

Hey Witchfinder, just brought one this evening after being addicted to them at RCM open day in May & Retro Reunited a few weeks back. Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow morning and of course browsing the net for multicarts!

Nice Vectrex overview! I've only had a couple of opportunities to play a real live Vectrex, and really enjoyed the experience (except for the 3D goggles - made me feel sick and left a nice black smudge on my head!) I would really love to own one of these machines, as you said: completely unique.

My best mate bought me one for my birthday, but by the time it reached us, it had stopped working. The machine would power up and make all the right noises, but something was wrong with the display - just a single dot in the centre of the screen. We were both gutted. It turns out that it usually is quite easy to fix, but we were scared off by the warnings of thousands of volts of electricity being stored in the tube.

I've seen the LCD game a couple more times on Ebay since I got mine... It doesn't seem to be that pricey generally.

Not yet... It's on my list! Saw a copy on Yahoo Japan last week actually but £63 plus shipping/fees was a little OTT for my liking!

I remember playing stuff like that at school (though Granny's Garden and L: A Mathemagical Adventure are my strongest memories) but the best place to find these games is at Stairway to Hell - www.stairwaytohell.com - an archive of all Beeb games...

Yeah, I remember Danger UXB and always thought it was an original Beeb game, until fairly recently when I found it is a clone of an obscure arcade game called Checkman...

Hi! We didn't have a BBC computer game at home, but in my 1st year of school in 1994 we had them with a lot of educational games. Have you heard of or even got any samples of these games "Pip goes to the Moon" "Funfair" with various things like an assault course, etc?

Thanks for sharing Witchfinder, I really enjoyed reading this piece. Funnily enough, I had nearly all of these games back in the day, though I was the owner of a lowly Electron rather than a Beeb.

The games all look pretty much identicle with the exception of Boffin (I don't think the Elk had this gfx mode, so we got a different version). Repton was my favourite and I still haven't completed it to this day.

Are you aware of Danger UXB? I think this was a Beeb original, and very addictive (and difficult, too).

Love retro games myself and am currently replaying some c64 classics (IO is as hard as I remember and green beret is unbearable).

Picked up Typing Of The Dead last week, I was quite suprised at some of the words/phrases that popped up, Hand Shandy and I'm sure Douche Bag or Douche something popped up as well.

It certainly helped me pass the time! We used to have arcades in most UK airports that occasionally had some older games, but they seem to have shut them all down now... :(

Yeah, we seem to have a the odd arcade joint with some old classics at airports here in Australia as well. Makes for a nice distraction when waiting for a flight.
